The difference between RCD330 and RCD340G

They are functionally identical Volkswagen OEM units with nearly the same hardware, and are only named differently because they are manufactured in different countries.

There is a wide range of RCD330 plus units available in the market, which can be overwhelming for many car owners. Next, we will gradually analyze each model for you.

This Volkswagen OEM unit goes by many names, and we will discuss the differences among these names.

The official name for these units include:

RCD330

MIB-G

R 340G (with clarification that “RCD340G” is not precisely named)

Look at their product manuals.

For simplicity, we will refer to it as the RCD330 hereafter.

**In 2016, Volkswagen produced the RCD330 with a 5-inch screen. **

It only supported MirrorLink and did not support CarPlay or Android Auto.

The Volkswagen part numbers for these units are:

* 6RD 035 187  (Made in China by Tian bao)
* 6RF 035 187  (Made in India by Harman)
* 6RF 035 187A  (Made in Brazil by Harman)

All of these units support a CD changer, AM/FM radio, SD card, USB, AUX input, OPS (Optical Parking System), reverse camera image display, built-in Bluetooth, and a microphone.

The 6RD 035 187 unit is manufactured in China by Tian bao Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd. (the manufacturer of the No name unit, previously known as Visteon China). Please see the pictures below.

**In 2016, Volkswagen again produced the RCD330 unit with a 6.5-inch screen**, 

No “App” button on the panel.

The Volkswagen part numbers are as follows:

* 6RD 035 187 A (Made in China)
* 5JF 035 187 (for Skoda) (Made in China)

These units have the same face panel and buttons but have different button definitions compared to the 187B.

The 6RD 035 187 A unit comes in two versions, both manufactured in China. They support AM/FM radio, SD card, USB, AUX input, OPS (Optical Parking System), reverse image, built-in Bluetooth, and a microphone.

One version is produced by Tianbao Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd., which is also the manufacturer of the No-name unit. The No-name 187A operates on Linux and can get CarPlay and Android Auto functionality through firmware upgrades. Please see the pictures below.

The other version of the 6RD 035 187 A unit is produced by Desay SV Automotive Co., Ltd., and its operating system is Microsoft Windows CE. This version cannot get CarPlay and Android Auto functionality through firmware upgrades. Please see the pictures for reference.

The 5JF 035 187 (Skoda) is also manufactured in China by Tian bao Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd., which is the same manufacturer of the No name unit. It operates on Linux and can get CarPlay and Android Auto functionality through firmware upgrades. This particular unit is specifically assembled for Škoda vehicles.


**In 2017, Volkswagen began producing RCD330 units with 6.5 inch screen (with app button on the panel).**

They all support CarPlay, Android Auto(Exclude Desay 187B), and MirrorLink.

The Volkswagen part numbers for these units are as follows:

*6RD 035 187B  (Made in China)
*6RF 035 187C  (Made in Brazil or India)
*6RF 035 187D  (Made in Brazil or India)
*6RF 035 187E  (Made in India or China, or Maybe Brazil)
*5JF 035 187A (Skoda)  (Made in China)

All of these units operate on Linux and support AM/FM radio, SD card, USB, AUX input, OPS (Optical Parking System), reverse image,  built-in Bluetooth, and a microphone. Notably, the RCD330 units produced in China have firmware that supports Car Life by Baidu company in China.

To distinguish them from the RCD330 units produced in 2016, we refer to those that support CarPlay and Android Auto as RCD330 Plus. Among them, the 187B is produced in China, while the 187C, 187D, and 187E are mainly produced in India and Brazil, with a few 187E being produced in China. These units are collectively referred to as RCD330 Plus. The official name for the 187B is MIB 2-G, and the official names for the 187C, 187D, and 187E are R 340G. Please refer to the pictures for further clarification.

187B, 187C, 187D, 187E, and 5JF 035 187A (Skoda) share the same face panel and buttons, but they differ in their quadlock interface definitions. The quadlock plug is divided into three areas, designated as A, B, and C, with the pins in area B having distinct definitions. Please refer to the following images for comparisons between 187B and 187C, 187D, 187E (including the genuine Chinese-made 187E).
