RCD330 Noname 187B: need to hard restart each time for Android Auto to work correctly
Hello! I recently bought an RCD330 from ddren and I was able to install it in my Golf Plus 2010, replacing a RCD510, and I am having one annoying issue that I wonder if other have experienced as well.
When I start the car:
- the radio wakes up
- I then connect my phone (Pixel 10) with the usb cable
- the unit seems to reboot
- android auto starts and playback starts
but then, there is some kind of low crackling noise, and the playback cuts out each 5-10 seconds
to fix this, I have to:
- hold the power button for 10 seconds
- reconnect the phone
and then android auto playback works without issues.
Things that I have tried:
- change usb cable
- disconnect the old bluetooth module under the passenger seat
- remove "media audio" from the bluetooth connection that the radio automatically creates when I connect
has anybody else run into this kind of issue? any hints would be greatly appreciated! 🙂
My old radio also had an aux in input and a connection for old ipods, if that helps somehow narrowing it down.
ps. when I first installed the radio there was no sound, but then I disconnected the battery for 15 minutes and then it started working. I haven't disconnected the battery after I have disconnected the bluetooth module, though.
I have done more investigations about this and these are the results:
1. the issue is with the bluetooth system: when I start the car, the unit wakes up but:
a. if bluetooth was turned on when I turned the car off: the phone screen says "Starting phone"... and stays in a loop. If I connect android auto, it works but audio gets interrupted each 5 seconds, because the bluetooth system is attempting to start itself up and fails.
b. if bluetooth was turned off before I started the car: the phone screen in the unit tells me to turn the bluetooth on, then the same thing happens as above: the bluetooth system tries to start itself up, and causes a loop that blocks the sound (also I can never connect my phone).
The solution for this is to keep the power button pressed for 10 seconds: the unit reboots, the bluetooth works.
This is however quite annoying to do each time I get into the car, and I have spent a lot of time trying to diagnose this already...
I wonder, could this be a hardware thing with the unit itself?
I managed to fix it!
1. I did the coding as suggested in the wiki
2. I flashed the firmware again
3. I renamed the radio's bluetooth name from the default to something else
4. I removed all emojiis from my contact list (apparently they can upset the mechanism that syncs them) (not sure this did anything.. 🙂 )
now it works!
