Flip camera always opens briefly when car turns on

Like the title says, whenever I start my car the flip camera opens and displays on the RCD330 even if the car was not in reverse. If the car is not put int reverse then the flip camera closes and shuts off but this shouldn’t be happening. Please advise.

Hi.

Let me explain the working principle of the camera based on the picture.

No. 5 connection, it provides power for flip motor and trunk switch. It needs to be directly connected to the car battery. It is not controlled by the car key, so as to ensure that you can directly open the trunk from the outside of the car without inserting Car key.

No. 3 connection, why connect the reversing light? It is because there is a relay inside the flip motor to control it. As long as the blue wire No. 3 gets current, it will start flipping. If the current from No. 3 is stopped, the relay will return to the off state after about 7 seconds. Therefore, the blue wire No. 3 is the switch control wire of the relay. As long as it gets current, the flipping motor starts to work. After the current is not available, the flipping motor will be turned off after 7 seconds.

No. 6 connection, which supplies power to the camera, must be connected to ACC 12V. If you connect the battery directly, it will cause the battery to drain. At the same time, if the camera is always powered, it will reduce the life of the camera itself.

Why do some Volkswagens start to work as soon as the car key is inserted?

Answer: Many Volkswagens have a function called light self-check. When you insert the car key, the car will start the light self-check to determine which bulb is damaged. If any bulb is damaged, the dashboard will show that the car bulb is damaged. This is a function that Volkswagen has opened for driving safety considerations. In this self-test, a current will be transmitted to the reversing light bulb to judge whether the light bulb is good or bad, and at the same time, this current will activate the flip motor.

Although it does not affect the normal operation of the flip camera, I also hope that it will not flip.
I am trying to see if there is a new way to solve this problem. For example, turn off the self-test of the reversing light bulb. If I can find the answer, I will tell everyone.

Thank you.

I thought there might be something like that going on. I think the easiest work around would be to add a low pass filter to the signal wire. Hopefully I can find some time to get in there with an oscilloscope and figure out what component values to try for the filter.

Thanks for the detailed response.

Im having the same problem with my install. The camera actuates open upon start of vehicle, then closes after the allotted time.  The camera fucntions fine after this initial actuation. Has there been a fix for this?

Does anyone find the solution of this issue?

@Ddren -

Did you find a solution to this? I just installed mine yesterday and it does this.
