Steering wheel buttons on mk5 Jetta (8-button MFSW)

Hi, I hope someone here can help.
I have the RCD330 installed in a mk5 Jetta (2007) with the 8-button steering wheel, and the gateway simulator is also installed.
Can anyone with this steering wheel tell me what button on the steering wheel is supposed to activate Siri or the Phone, or to answer a call?
Pressing the STAR button (short or long press) does nothing.
Pressing the PHONE button (short of long press) generates a beep, and will end a call, but not answer one and will not activate Siri.
I can end a call by pressing the phone button, but I can't seem to answer a call without using the screen.
Volume buttons on the steering wheel do work.
The description for the gateway simulator says it "solves the MFSW buttons problem" but it seems not full in my case.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Someone here must have this combination of the 8-button steering wheel on the mk5 with the simulator....
Could you please share your experience of what you're seeing in terms of button function?
The simulator is not doing for me what the listing said it would do. Thanks...
