RCD330 microphone only works when engine is off

Hello,

I just installed a noname rcd330 (187B Hw541 sw5614) in a mk6 golf. Everything works fine except that the microphone only works properly when engine is off or when engine has been running for like 30 minutes and is restarted.
When the engine is running the people i call hear static and engine noise, the more I rev up the more noise. They cannot hear me well and sometimes they cannot hear me at all. What could it be? Could the unit be faulty? I have some suspicions about this unit as the knobs have light bleeding underneath them and the guide rails are missing from the casing and the screen has a lot of ghosting when it's cold. Are these normal?

It's difficult to tell if the unit one receives is genuine or cloned IF they have never seen one in the flesh before.

You were right. My unit was a clone. I got my hands on a genuine one from a local company in the UK. (Apologies they were running a sale and it was cheaper without the shipping costs, otherwise you are officially the only reliable and trustworthy seller on the internet for rcd330.

My unit was from lemonshark.
People be careful. Buy from here.

Comparing a genuine and cloned unit:

Build quality: the genuine has a more sturdy feeling metal casing. The casing doesn't flex at all.
the knob buttons do not have any light bleeding and the knobs have a super uniform frosted red light ring. It feels and looks OEM and you shouldn't be able to tell the difference from say your rcd510.

Screen: the screen itself on the genuine has an oem like glossiness to it. Minimal ghosting. Here is -2C and some ghosting is to be expected but when the unit warms up a bit no ghosting at all. The cloned unit was unbearable while scrolling and was more matte.

Guide rails: the genuine has the guide rails on the rear.

Badging: the genuine had a vw logo covered by a sticker. A half removed label.

Mic: the microphone is miles better and well it works no matter if the engine is running, car moving, ac on etc.  it is properly grounded .

a quick vcds coding disabled the reverse camera and now shows a golf in the ops display.

I update mine to the latest fw 5614 and it's bug free and very responsive. (The cloned unit was updated and was responsive too)

As a side note I had great success with installing a proper dual fakra adapter with 2 cables merged into 1. I have personally experienced a massive difference. More fm stations (most of them show names) and AM now works. I understand this might be car dependent.

avoid aliexpress or even unknown ebay sellers. Since production stopped it's becoming increasingly difficult to find a genuine unit. Communication with sellers that have something to hide is extremely difficult.

I’ve got exactly the same problem. I purchased a rcd330/340g from lemon shark and installed it in my mk5 golf. The microphone works perfectly when the engine is off. As soon as you switch the engine on, the microphone does not work. @neo705- would really like your assistance if possible. Did you get a refund from lemonshark? I really need to by another unit but I’m afraid it’ll be another clone or won’t work!!
