Need Help Replacing 2014 Passat OEM Camera with New Dynamic Trajectory Version
Quote from Ericfish on July 5, 2026, 2:36 pmFirst, I have a 2014 Volkswagen Passat with Fender Audio.I ordered the RCD 330 Pro and installed it. There were a couple of glitches, but I updated the firmware, and now it works great. Awesome!I also received the new dynamic trajectory camera last week. I started the installation a couple of days ago, but I'm now stuck. I have the car torn apart, but now I'm not sure what to do with the original OEM backup camera and wiring harness in the trunk.
- I assume the original video cable (blue/purple plug) that's on the right side of the car is no longer needed.
- The new video cable that I ran from the dashboard fits the camera fine.
- Another group of wires is attached to the original camera. The small plug with the brown and purple wires fits into the new camera.
- There is another group of wires (red, yellow, and brown). I assume the red wire is power, but I'm not sure what to do with these wires.
I'm attaching an image that shows the original camera assembly. Anything you can do to help is appreciated. I'm supposed to leave on vacation, um, today, and I would really like to get my car fixed before then :-/Thanks for your help.

Quote from Ericfish on July 15, 2026, 1:04 amAlthough I received no responses to my post, I discovered that the entire OEM camera assembly and all of the original wires from the right side of the car were not required to install the new camera. I assumed some of the previous wires or the original harness would be needed to connect to the new camera, but this was not the case. I simply left the right-hand harness and wires unplugged and secured them with zip ties before putting the car back together. I assume these led to the original head unit, and they corresponded to the wiring that was pulled out of the original stereo. As it turns out, you only need the new single video cable that runs from the head unit to the trunk, and none of the other wires in the trunk are needed.
At this point, the radio, Car Play, and the new reverse camera all work perfectly. I also tested it out on a 900 mile drive during the past week with no problems. I also verified that the brake lights and backup lights work properly.
I write this hoping that somebody will be able to benefit from my experience and not have to go through the pain and suffering that I did.
